Judi Lehman is a community activist who has served on the regional parks board and  the city of  Monterey's Historic Preservation Commission.  She defeated little-known challenger Andrew Clarke in a race to represent Monterey, Del Rey Oaks, Sand City, and a chunk of South Seaside on the Monterey Peninsula Water District Board.

Conservation and recycling projects to stretch the peninsula's scarce water supply remain on Lehman's agenda, as do innovations that will open up new sources of water.  Among them, Lehman points to high-tech projects like a water-saving dishwashing system piloted at the Defense Language Institute, off-shore desalination efforts,  and the more humdrum installation of artificial turf on local high school athletic fields.
