A year-long search for a new executive director of the Monterey Jazz Festival landed Chris Doss in the position. Doss will direct day-to-day operations  and will work with the Board of Directors and the Artistic Director to determine the overall strategic direction of the organization.

Artistic Director Tim Jackson will stay on. "I look forward to a productive, collaborative relationship with Chris that will move the Monterey Jazz Festival forward in a positive direction for the future," he said in a statement.

Doss, who is also a musician, has experience in the entertainment industry managing multi-million dollar projects across the private, public, and non-profit sectors. He served as Director of Marketing at AT&T Performing Arts Center in Dallas, TX, establishing the largest cultural arts project in the nation. He has also led initiatives for Gibson Guitar Corporation, publicity for Bill Graham Presents in the Pacific Northwest Region, and national promotion and marketing at Ticketmaster.

In Seattle, WA, Doss presided over the opening of Marion Oliver McCaw Hall and positioned the Seattle Center's KeyArena as the leading concert venue on the West Coast, according to the Jazz Festival.

The festival has been running since 1958. Board President Jackson Booth described the festival as "an international icon of excellence in both music performance and music education" in the announcement of Doss's hiring.
