It's official: In six months, Styrofoam take-out containers will be illegal in the unincorprated county.

The Supervisors finalized their April 6 signal of support on April 13, banning polystyrene packaging in the unincorporated county. The item was continued a week in order to reduce the proposed 12-month grace period to six months.

The move comes in coordination with a county-wide effort, led by the Litter Abatement Task Force, to ban the litter-prone, wildlife-harming material. Five Peninsula cities have also signed onto the ban.
