Harpiris Energy is looking for Monterey Bay-area homeowners to participate in a solar water heating demonstration project. The Salinas-based company announced that it has nine SunCache systems to give away, but homeowners must agree to pay for the installation, which costs about $1,000, and receive a building permit.
The company says that energy savings from the solar-powered heater equal about $200 a year with gas backup or about $750 a year with electric backup for a four-person family.
Harpiris recommends contacting Applied Solar Energy in Pacific Grove or another local licensed plumbing or general contractor. For more info visit www.harpiris.com.
