The new 46-seat Spanish tapas restaurant with the funky name (Mundaka) and the promising pedigree (restaurateur Gabe Georis ran his family's Casanova for years), is set to open mid-March 2009. Georis took a big step in the right culinary direction by tabbing Brandon Miller, former executive chef and partner of Stokes Restaurant and Bar, as the new executive chef there.
At Stokes, Miller was popular for creative California-Mediterranean fare that celebrated local and sustainable ingredients; he parted ways with the Stokes team at the end of 2008. His travels to Spain will aid mightily in developing an authentic menu to pair with a diverse Spanish wine selection and warm Spanish interior design.
Prices will range from $3-$6 for tapas and main course items will begin at $14. During the month of March, Miller will partner with guest Chef and Food Stylist Amanda Laporte from Barcelona.
Mundaka is located at San Carlos between Ocean and Seventh. For more information on the grand opening, to make reservations or book a private event, call 624-7400 or go to www.mundakacarmel.com.
