There may be a cheaper way to sustain a library in Pacific Grove.
That's the message from P.G. residents Jim and Lee Willoughby, who have announced the formation of an ad hoc committee focused on encouraging the city to join the county's library system. The library is now a city-operated entity.
The Willoughbys, who oppose the city's November parcel tax to support the P.G. Public Library, say merging the library into the county system would require approval from both the City Council and the county Board of Supervisors.
"There is a better way to go for the future of our Pacific Grove Public Library, rather than a $6 million parcel tax," reads the Willoughbys' Aug. 1 public announcement. "After all, as times are changing, we must look for better and more efficient ways of funding services for our residents, now and in the future."
