Sen. Jeff Denham announced today that he is withdrawing from the lieutenant governor race and running for the state Assembly 25th District seat.
"Over the course of the last few days I've had countless discussions with my family, community leaders, local and state business leaders, local elected officials, my colleagues in the Legislature and the Governor," Denham said in a prepared statement. "My family and I have decided that the greatest difference I can make for the people I represent, our region, the state and the taxpayers of California is in the State Assembly."
Denham, who is termed out in his 12th District Senate seat, will face former Modesto City Councilwoman Janice Keating in the 25th District race. Denham's announcement comes a couple weeks after Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger named Sen. Abel Maldonado as his choice for lieutenant governor.
