Big Sur Land Trust acquires more Carmel River habitat.

The public just got access to a lot more river, thanks to a fresh acquisition by the Big Sur Land Trust.

Quail Lodge donated conservation easements on 10 acres of Carmel River habitat and 2 miles of public trail, according to today's press release from BSLT. 

In addition, the trust bought a 3-acre parcel from the Rancho San Carlos Partnership for $1.3 million, with help from the David and Lucile Packard Foundation. The property will eventually be home to a river education center.

Now in its 30th year, BSLT is leading the multi-agency Carmel River Parkway Vision Plan, an effort to protect and restore the Carmel River with help from the local community.

This acquition adds the most recent segment of the Carmel River Parkway, which is slowly coming together like a puzzle. Other pieces include the 32-acre Moo Land property next to Garland Ranch Regional Park and the floodplain restoration project on the Odello East preperty at the mouth of the river.
