A 14-year-old Salinas boy was shot and killed last night, marking the city's 22nd homicide of the year, police said.
About 8:15pm police found Erik Lopez Garcia on the porch of an apartment on the 1000 block of Rider Avenue suffering from multiple gunshot wounds to his torso. Garcia succumbed to his injuries at Natividad Medical Center.
The slaying, like every other homicide this year, is being investigated as gang related. The fatal shooting ends a lull in homicides after a deadly stretch of seven homicides in 11 days, which started July 27.
