Clips roll on TVs in every row of the bus as MMT navigates Monterey County film history.

Nearly 200 films have been shot here since a cameraman for Thomas Edison captured carriages arriving at the Hotel Del Monte in 1897, and Doug Lumsden knows the details on most of them. Lumsden dishes on all things films and celebrities, from Doris Day to Clint Eastwood, on his Monterey Movie Tours, a fun and interesting tour that both tourists and locals will enjoy. On the three-hour tour, Lumsden shares all the juicy details about where famous movie scenes were shot and the big stars who traipsed through town during filming. The van is tricked out with cushy seats and monitors above each row, so guests can watch clips from famous movies shot in the location right outside the van’s windows. It’s a must for film buffs, but even people who aren’t into movies will be entertained by Lumsden’s stories of local lore, and of course the breathtaking scenery around the Monterey Peninsula, especially along 17-Mile Drive.
