It’s Getting Eventful

The grandpappy of Beer Week events actually flows the following weekend with Monterey Beer Festival’s 15th annual installment on Saturday, June 11. Major brands Trumer Pils, Stone Brewery, Sierra Nevada, Firestone and Lagunitas stand alongside newer names with a growing local cult following like Alvarado Street Brewery and Leopold 7. From overseas, Carlsberg of Denmark, Kronenbourg 1664 from France and Ireland’s own Guinness make appearances, offering guests more traditional European-style beers; 26 different brands assemble all told. On the food front, Lugano’s Swiss Bistro of Carmel brings the brats, while Craft Artisan Ales from Pacific Grove provides pizza. Tacos, kebabs and baked potatoes further fuel beer lovers while musical sets start with DJ Fredo, followed by Journey Revisited and ending with Daze on Green. Oh – there’s also a beer pong tournament whose sheer scale (and beer selection) puts tourneys found at college campuses to shame. It all makes for quite an experience, with a lot of toasts involved.

12:30-5pm Saturday, June 11. Monterey County Fair and Event Center, 2004 Fairgrounds Road, Monterey. $45/general admission presale; $50/general admission at the door; $70/VIP presale; $80/VIP at the door (VIP early admission gates open at 11:30am); $20/designated driver; $10/on site parking.www.MontereyBeerFestival.com.
