Restaurant 1833
500 Hartnell St., Monterey
643-1833
It was big, this 1833 vision. Seven distinct spaces in one beautiful place. A historic venue where quick crispy-pork-and-biscuit bites and Penicillin No. 2s for $20 can coexist alongside four-hour dinners with $200 whole lobes of foie gras. Where down home fried chicken nights and world-class Barolo wine dinners can make for an inspired Sunday-Monday sequence. Where Chef Levi Mezick, GM Tobias Peach and bev director Ted Glennon could bring big-city sophistication to an overlooked foodie community. In 2012 the vision was realized, seducing the likes of the S.F. Chronicle, James Beard and visitors Thomas Keller, Guy Fieri, Casey Thompson, François Payard, Dean Fearing, Daniel Boulud, Daniel Humm and Alton Brown too. We just wonder what took them so long. Consider the vision realized.
