Rage, Rage

The “F-Trump” banner is vulgar and ought not be shown (“Protesters march against President Trump and white supremacy in downtown Monterey,” posted Aug. 14.) Certainly there were other photos that could be shown instead.

Tom Lynch | via Facebook

I will never pick up your POS Weekly again. Except to start a fire in my fireplace.

Andrea Bruno | via Facebook

Young people with nothing better to do with their time then to disrupt the public spaces with their insane rhetoric. They need to learn a little more about American history before spreading rage and violence about matters they lack full understanding of.

Karen Lynn Leavitt | via Facebook

Go back to work people! Your voice will not change what is meant to be. Move on, stop trying to get the spotlight. How about helping out the homeless and vets along with the mentally unstable with in OUR community?

Jerry Warren | via Facebook

Monkey see monkey do. Sheep followers. Really sad.

Mary Titus | via Facebook

LOL. All lives matter, snowflakes.

Joseph Madeiros | via Instagram

It’s a shame that these people don’t know how to express themselves without resorting to vulgar language.

Mary Koch | via Facebook

Nothing says peaceful coexistence like disgusting profanity. How about let’s not fight hate with hate.

Gretchen Dagmar | via Facebook

You’re not reporting what’s happening in the community. You’re helping to spread propaganda and hateful people that are continuously dividing this country. So thank you, douchebags, for putting photos online dissing our POTUS and using explicative for young kids to see. Hitting remove and and the reason will be because of profanity!

Kimmie Darie | via Facebook

This is horrible! What am I supposed to tell my children when they ask what “Fuck Trump” means? Thousands of people travel through that tunnel everyday. Is that necessary? Monterey County Weekly, why would you post that?

Eric Gattis | via Facebook

You tell them that people are very angry and sometimes saying “Fuck” is cathartic. It’s just a word, for chrissake.

Donna Avila | via Facebook

Tell kids the truth. Don’t shield them from reality. Its our job to have them ready to live on their own and make their own decisions.

Ignacio Cabrera | via Facebook

If my son was old enough to read, I would have explained to him that some people do not like our president. Some people chose to express their hatred and lunacy by hanging signs off of tunnels. Some people have no life. LOL. Honestly though, I would just explain that some people don’t agree with what our president does or says. As U.S. citizens, they do have the right to peacefully protest. That’s pretty simple.

Shocking number of people on this post [are] more upset about a four-letter word than actual, literal Nazis marching in the streets of our nation and killing American citizens.

Michael Kohler | via Facebook

Nah, they’re onto something. The fact that you anti-Trump people can’t articulate anything better than that is indicative of your utter lack of reason.

Russell Jackson | via Facebook

I think “fuck Trump” is quite articulate, succinct, to the point, gets across the outrage and is obviously very effective at triggering the folks who want to either a) defend their dear leader or b) wring their hands over semantics while we have Nazis marching in the streets.

Ivy LaVelle | via Facebook

Disgrace to beautiful Monterey!

Sheri Rocha | via Facebook

I’m proud of you Monterey County!

Cheryl Robinson | via Facebook

This post should be deleted. The protesters are protesting hate with hate. It’s irresponsible reporting and does not add anything of value. It pits groups against each other and fuels the fire. The agenda is obvious, nice try Weekly.

Eric Brown | via Instagram

This is the stupidest thing I have ever seen. What is wrong with these people?

Marta Mendoza | via Facebook

Gee, I dunno… maybe they’re tired of watching racism destroy this country? Maybe they’re frustrated with the stupidity in office? Maybe they are using their white privilege to make a difference for all people, not just a few rich useless complainers?

Koly McBride | via Facebook

People are looking for what is wrong in the picture left and right. The only concern is Trump resurrected white supremacy, bigotry and Nazi ideology in this largely immigrant country and that is the problem.

Leslie Alvarez-Arevalo | via Facebook

This thread is so discouraging. I can’t believe so many in our town still support such a hateful neanderthal as this president.

Jackie Erickson Sanders | via Facebook

Is this Monterey I grew up in? Sad!

Tom Coburn | via Facebook

Is this the USA in which I was raised? Very sad and disturbing.

Lock and Key

Just so I understand: The Weekly, along with the other major news outlets in the county, accompanied by the First Amendment Coalition, requested access to the encryption key to the new digital police frequencies (“Free Speech,” Aug. 17-23). They made it clear that this was for “media access only,” so at least someone outside of law enforcement would have an independent view into police operations as they occur.

The attorney for the chiefs association denied the request, because in three instances in three states suspected criminals outside of the media monitored police frequencies, presumably for their own nefarious ends. Uh, how exactly do those examples have anything to do with the media request?

Q: “Sir, would you please give me that loaf of bread?” A: “Sorry, we’re all out of cheese.”

I can understand not wanting the bad guys to have an unfair advantage, but no accountability at all is a really bad idea.

Deep Breathing

That surely cost less than removing asbestos the proper way (“Owner of Dick Bruhn Building in Salinas agrees to pay $75K for illegal asbestos removal,” posted Aug. 11).

Carol Helmer | via Facebook

That seems insufficient.

Taking A Toll

Blackie Road and San Miguel Canyon will suffer, as will anyone living in North County. Thousands, daily, will use these routes to avoid the toll (“A decade after the idea of a new Highway 156 surfaced, officials crunch the data,” Aug. 17-23). Perhaps TAMC can transfer funds from a few of the 4,754 planned roundabouts to build 156 instead bringing years of misery to residents of Prunedale and Aromas.

Kelly Burgin | via Facebook

I agree with a toll road that exempts locals. Traffic is ridiculous there, has been for too long. Even Mexico is way ahead of Monterey County, visited there 20 years ago and Mexico had a toll freeway parallel to the old road from Mexico City to Cuernavaca and Acapulco; no trucks on the new freeway. If people can afford to visit the Monterey area and pay $200 for a room, make them pay for the road to get there!

Please no. We don’t want to be Florida. Public transportation, light rail, etc.!

Revving Up

I enjoyed the list of cars movies (“Our top 10 car movies of all time, plus a spare,” Aug. 24-30). I was disappointed of course that, in my opinion, the greatest car chase car movie ever was excluded from what was otherwise a fine list. Yes, of course, Steve McQueen and the movie Bullet (not the “lightning McQueen” of Cars). Still unequaled and never duplicated. No fake CGI or special effects, just real cars, real drivers, real roads, engines’ actual sounds and intense, real American muscle cars.

David Fairhurst | Carmel Valley

Jenny MacMurdo, the new CEO of the Carmel Chamber of Commerce, must be suffering from exhaust fumes from the Carsmell events (“Squid Fry, Aug. 24-30). To make a statement like “our retailers couldn’t make it without this week” is an insult to all the retailers who have cultivated many lasting relationships through the years with repeat clients, both local and otherwise, the other 51 weeks. To think that our businesses success for the year is predicated on one week of an event is both naive and ridiculous. Car Week may buoy some small business owners through the year, but not the majority.

Chip Wittpenn | Carmel

Editor’s note: Witpenn is proprietor of Wittpenns Antiques in Carmel.

Watching kids have fun seeing the cars, especially trying to figure out the ones that they had no idea what type they were (“What was your favorite event during Car Week?” posted Aug. 21). They just thought they were cool.

Glenn Woodson | via Facebook

I liked d’LeMons for fun!

When all the cars left and the area went back to normal.
