Pacific Tweed bankruptcy and lawsuit. Lawsuit in Las Vegas at restaurant. Lawsuit in L.A. from restaurant and meltdown lawsuit with Robert Weakley. Pretty loud sizzle, pretty stinky steak. (“Looking for hope in the dramatic David Bernahl-Rob Weakley-Coastal Luxury Management breakdown,” posted Jan. 7.) Romney Dunbar | via Facebook
I did think it odd that David Bernahl filed for bankruptcy from Tweeds, was sued by a local dentist for non-payment and still managed to spend time on Sir Richard Branson’s private Neckers Island. Elaine Giampietro | via Facebook
Great article. The hospitality industry has been shady, at best, for as long as anyone can remember. It’s the nature of the business. I don’t know if the Troesh gang knew what they were getting into when they combined their legitimate wealth with the admitted business philosophy of “robbing Peter to pay Paul” (not that there’s anything wrong with that, as many people live that way successfully every single day); however, it’s probably not the most compatible trait in terms of creating a functional business relationship. You can count on CLM for being opportunistic but the Troeshes should have known better than to combine forces with such opposing viewpoints. Less talking and more observing would have served her well. I’m happy local Monterey restaurants won’t be disrupted and hopefully a good lesson has been learned in regard to getting too big for your britches and keeping your scene a little tighter. Good luck to all involved. Anna Masteller | via Facebook
CORRECTIONS: The last name of Cuba expert Jonathan Showe was misspelled in last week’s print edition (“Face to Face: A consultant teaches business people and travelers the ins and outs of Cuba as normalization looms,” Jan. 8-14).
A story about Steven Goings (“Steven Goings works within and transcends the limits of many local communities in a quest for harmony,” Jan. 1-7) should have noted he is the founder and co-adviser the NAACP college chapter at CSU Monterey Bay, not an adviser; he is working to get the National Coalition Building Institute to work with Unity of Monterey Bay, not the NAACP. He was diagnosed with HIV in 1990 and became an addict in 1993. The Weeklyregrets the errors.
