We wanted to turn the table on “farm-to-table.”

The term has been so overused and abused, it’s lost much of its nutritional content. So for our annual Food & Drink issue, we decided to look toward where it all comes from. And we turned to Weekly readers, asking what down-in-the-dirt agents for good in Monterey County deserve attention.

Readers responded, and here they are: a compelling profile of the giant family farm nobody knows about, new ag-tech breakthroughs, an accomplished ag artist, a queen bee garden teacher and, yes, the next kale. With enough for seconds.
