Power leaps ahead by five strokes on another postcard day at the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am.

Seamus Power scorched the field on Friday, emerging as the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am leader at 16-under after two days of play.

"I just haven't really come here with a lot of form before and this is the first time I've had a bit of form and I think it goes a long way," he told reporters after finishing his round on the Pebble Beach Golf Links. But he was under no illusions, despite building a five stroke advantage. "Still obviously a lot of work to do over the weekend," he added.

Power was 8-under on the day to pull ahead of first round leader Tom Hoge, Andrew Putnam and Adam Svensson, who ended the day tied for second at 11-under. Hoge struggled on the front nine of the relatively benign Monterey Peninsula Country Club course, recording to bogeys and a double before recovering after the turn to card a 2-under day. Putnam jumped three places with a strong 5-under showing at Spyglass Hill.

Svensson took full advantage of perfect conditions on the MPCC shore course, hitting all 18 fairways and recording an 8-under 63 to climb 31 places on the leaderboard.

"I was striking it well yesterday and today and just kind of kept the mojo going," he said.

On the pro-am team side, Power and Irish executive Dermot Desmond took the lead with David Lipsky and Fortinet chief technical officer Michael Xie a stroke behind. Thursday's leader and defending champion team of Kevin Streelman and  Larry Fitzgerald could not find an answer to the undulating greens of Spyglass Hill and dropped into a tie for 33rd at 12-under, six behind the leaders.

"We just didn't play well," Fitzgerald explains.

Streelman was more direct about his 5-over round. "I played terrible," he says. "I have to figure a few things out in the practice area and do it again tomorrow."

Don Colleran, CEO of FedEx Express who remains in contention at 9-under on the team side with pro Peter Malnati was breathing easier after finishing his turn at Spyglass, considered the most challenging of the three courses.

"I'm glad this one is behind me," he says. "I told my pro I was only going to play Thursday and Saturday."

With the weather again behaving, Spyglass decided to rear itself against the field. "This one you want on a windy day," explains Jordan Spieth, who fired a 70 to drop two places into a tie at 41st. Nick Hardy, playing the tournament for the first time, adds that there were "a lot of birdies to be had, but you have to be so precise."

"The greens are firmer and faster than I'm used to," Matt Kuchar points out.

With weather expected to cooperate through the weekend, those trying to make the Saturday cut expect a lot of attention from the gallery.

"It's been nuts already," says actor Don Cheadle, who ended Friday at 9-under with teammate Ryan Moore. "It will be crazier tomorrow."
