George Saldivar studied with an inspirational teacher, Ray Sells, at Skyline Community College in the ’70s and continued to work with wood and stone while at San Francisco State. Currently, Saldivar, a retiree in Monterey, is exploring found wood, oak, laurel, applewood and walnut. His sculptures present organic curves, which can sometimes be interpreted as female forms. At times he includes designs of stained glass into his sculptures. Occasionally he employs an electrically-induced fractal burn called the Lechtenberg effect to his designs.
