Chris Roberts-Antieau is a fiber artist from Michigan. She calls her works “embroidered tapestries,” created with the use of fabric appliqué, thread painting and hand embroidery. Her subject matter is the natural word and its magic around her. Roberts-Antieau emphasizes she never went to art school or college. “My work is about joy,” she says. “It’s about the mysterious origin of joy, and the wonder of childhood.” Roberts-Antieau has galleries in Santa Fe, New Orleans and now in Carmel. She also draws, paints and creates mixed-media works. The above piece is titled “Barn Owl.” Visit Antieau Gallery at Ocean and 7th, Carmel to see more; gallery hours are 11am-6pm daily. [AP]
