“It was a long time coming,” says Soft White Sixties guitarist/keyboardist Aaron Eisenberg.
The “it” he’s referring to is the outfit’s full-length debut, Get Right., which finally came out on March 4 after being in the works for, yes, a long ass-time – somewhere in the neighborhood of about four years, due to funding woes.
Now that it’s complete and released, it feels like Eisenberg and the rest of the band can finally take a breath,
“It feels great,” Eisenberg says.
The 10-track album grabs momentum at the beginning and carries it to the end: From “Lemon Squeezer,” a hard rock hurricane flooded with memories of Billy Idol, to the tightly-wound, mid-70s Supertramp-with-a-touch-of-T-Rex bookend “Tilt-A-Whirl,” there isn’t a boring moment.
Eisenberg gives a lot of credit to the album’s producer, Jim Greer – known for his recent work on Foster the People’s platinum-selling Torches – who’s become good friends with the band since making the record and even sits in with them at shows on occasion.
But before Get Right. hit the streets, The Soft White Sixties created their own hype in 2013, beginning with a sold-out show at The Independent in San Francisco in June. Later in the summer, they made their Outside Lands debut at Golden Gate Park. (They hope to return this summer.) The year culminated in an opening slot at Rolling Stone’s private concert series at The Fillmore featuring The Hives after they performed fairly regularly at L.A. hot spots like the Troubadour and the Viper Room and were also named one of the “Top 25 Shows at SXSW 2013” by SXSW.
Eisenberg says the outfit is looking to make 2014 even more eventful, with a lot of touring and festivals.
“We love festivals,” he says.
And as far as taking another four years to make a follow-up LP? It’s not likely.
“We’re already working on it,” Eisenberg says. “We’re planning to have it tracked and ready to go before the year is over. You heard it here first folks.”
In the meantime, The Soft White Sixties perform tonight at Fernwood, the night before Hipnic.
