Homeland Serenity leader has rich cache of original songs.

Songwriter Security: All Four: Homeland hits East Village next.

While Mac Talley and his band Homeland Serenity cover songs by ‘60s legends like Bob Dylan and contemporary mainstays like Wilco, the songwriter can call on a wealth of original material. Talley’s compositions are generally catchy, well-constructed guitar pop that nods to ‘90s alt rock.

His “Voice of a Generalization” features acoustic strums overlaid with electric guitar lines and lyrics that seem to damn disposable pop princesses with lines like: “You say you are going to shake the pillars of civilization/ Honey, you are nothing more than the voice of a generalization.” Another track, the more downbeat “Built to Last” is more personal in nature and confronts a fading relationship.

Before forming Homeland Serenity, Talley was known around town for his mid ‘90s New Wave-inspired Jupiter Vox and the late ‘90s power pop group Foamscape.

HOMELAND SERENITY plays 8pm Saturday, Sept. 15, at the East Village Coffee Lounge, 498 Washington St., Monterey. Free. 373-5601.
