Folktale Winery & Vineyards delivers an unbeatable three-night run of singer-songwriter-cover talent.

The storybook garden setting, pristine natural surroundings, expanse of vineyards and Carmel Valley’s warm, late-afternoon sun add up to the ideal setting for sipping on some really good vino.

Serene, right? That is until live music is added to the mix.

This weekend Folktale is hosting three nights of music featuring three different acts. Jenna Vivre kicks it off Friday with a majorly eclectic song repertoire. How to define her set? A mix on a Maxell tape may possibly exist somewhere out there, lodged under the seat of a Vassar College grad’s old Volvo station wagon.

Vivre weaves together engaging sets fueled by wordsmiths who excel at capturing the romance beyond the smell of piss and dirty syringes carpeting a stereotypical skid row. The tales transcend the flickering fluorescent lights of an empty subway car or inspire hope through a backdrop of humid nights at the Jersey Shore.

Her breathy vocals soaked in vibrato translate into an original interpretation of this arsenal of blue-collar poets, reluctant literary geniuses, whiskey-voiced troubadours and reflective balladeers. Bruce Springsteen, Bob Dylan, Tom Waits and Leonard Cohen feed her soul.

Vivre also tosses in some fan favorites: Gillian Welch’s “Wayside, Miss Ohio,” The Band’s “The Weight” and Dolly’s “Jolene.” There’s also an assortment of some of indie’s best, like Cat Power’s “Sea of Love” and Allen Stone’s “Unaware.”

While she has a slew of original material, constantly gigging and crisscrossing the country, she’s really not in it for fame. Her goal is to be embraced by a supportive community.

Live music continues at Folktale throughout the weekend. On Saturday, Ace de la Vergne, a Monterey transplant from New Orleans, performs. Vergne also plans on covering Dolly Parton’s version of southern therapeutic, “Jolene.” It’s worth noting that Vergne loves the White Stripes’ rendition of the song.

On Sunday, the trifecta of music closes with one of the hardest-working singer-songwriters in the area: Austin Metreyeon unloads a mix of both covers and originals.

After honing his skills as a self-taught multi-instrumentalist, Metreyeon delivers an assortment in every show, drawing from alternative rock, soul, folk, R&B, country, blues and funk, made to order.

You may forget to take that first sip of wine.
