ANNIE HOOKER

This is your last chance to see Urban Jungle, a solo exhibition of paintings by Annie Hooker (the great-granddaughter of Pebble Beach founder Samuel F.B. Morse) at Gallery MAR in Carmel. The artist says her “urban jungle” upbringing in San Francisco and her eventual migration to the Sierra Nevada mountains are significant influences on her style. She also draws heavily from pop art, street art, outsider art and modern art. Yet her subject matter is most closely associated with Western artwork. All of which leads Hooker to ask questions like, “Why can’t a buffalo be blue, or a deer be red?” So in her painted world, they are. On display until Sunday, Dec. 10. [AP]

MARK FARINA

As the holiday season approaches, Carmel Art Association is thrilled to present its annual December exhibition, The Art of Gifting, encouraging visitors to give the gift of art. This exhibition runs until Jan. 1, 2024. An opening reception takes place from 4-7pm on Saturday, Dec. 9. Join the event with local artists – plus live jazz and wine. The Art of Gifting brings together the collective talents of CAA artist members (including Mark Farina, above), showcasing small-scale treasures meant to inspire the art of giving. Artworks range in size from 6-by-6 inches to 12-by-16 inches. [AP]
