LILI JORGE
Artists Lili Jorge, Michelle Robertson and Rory Glass are teaming up to pay homage, share and celebrate the tradition of Día de Los Muertos from a California perspective. November Skulls is a collaborative art show that takes place from 3-7pm on Sunday, Nov. 5 in Headdress Salon in Monterey. The public is invited to the exhibition of reimagined photography, digital illustrations and elaborate shadow boxes. Jorge started making sugar skull-inspired shadow boxes in early 2015 as a way to creatively express her admiration for Día de Los Muertos. She uses vintage cigar boxes, multimedia, and recycled material to create a compilation that expresses the delicate balance between life and death. Sizes, themes and materials vary. [AP]
JESS SORIANO
Pacific Grove Art Center presents My Name Is… Visual Storytelling Through Art and Culture, featuring art by Natalia Corazza, Germain Hatcher, Marcia Perry and Jess Soriano, whose piece, “Orca Dreams,” is featured above. Soriano is an explorer and visual creator. The search for endless adventure led her to Monterey, where she currently resides. With a background in health science, she ventured into the world of science illustration, and from there, her perspective expanded from medical science to environmental conservation. From children’s book illustrations to murals, Soriano is adept in a variety of artistic mediums. The exhibit can be seen in PGAC’s Gill Gallery until Dec. 14. [AP]
