The Reductionists is a collective of artists founded in 1955 who pushed ceramics beyond their functional roots into the realms of narrative, theater and the absurd. This parafictional art movement was conceived by artist, fabulist and Monterey Peninsula College instructor Mark Tanous, who created the group in the world of his imagination. The Provenance Offered Vocariously: 100th Anniversary Show – which explores atmosphere, form and the material possibilities of clay as a stage for storytelling and experimentation – opens on Saturday, Oct. 25 at the Monterey Peninsula College Art Gallery (980 Fremont St., Monterey) when the opening reception takes place 4-7pm. Regular gallery hours are 11am-4pm Tuesday through Friday and by appointment. [AP]
