ALTAR OF THE DEAD
“Honoring Seven Generations” is the title of the 15th annual Community Day of the Dead Altar & Show at Artisana Gallery in Pacific Grove. Artisana has set aside space “for honoring our beloved departed family, friends and pets, paying tribute to the generations that came before us during this special time of year,” Adrienne Johnson of Artisana writes in an email. Enjoy work by local artists and specialty artworks from the U.S. and Mexico featuring sugar skulls, skeletons, marigolds and more. Stop by Friday, Oct. 6 through Thursday, Nov. 2 to honor beloved departed family, friends and pets. Messages, flowers, photos and mementos are welcome. These messages will remain in place until the afternoon of Nov. 2 (All Souls Day), at which time they will be gathered and driven to Asilomar State Beach to be read aloud and then ceremonially burned in a small fire.
