PAUL RICHMOND

Muralist and anti-bullying activist Paul Richmond is no stranger in the Monterey County artistic community. He is back with another mural, this time in King City (at 809 Broadway St.) done with another muralist, Brenda Scettrini-Saglio in collaboration with the cafe King City Bloom and King City High School. The mural idea was initiated and sponsored by Mee Memorial Healthcare System, a hospital in King City. The image showcases South Monterey County wildflowers and butterflies, as well as the spirit of the King City community. SHAGUFTA KHAN

An impressionist abstract painter, Shagufta Khan, “came back to art as an abstract artist after many years of pause,” she says. “But as a young girl I was trained as a realist artist in my teens. I do not plan my work. It’s all about channeling my thoughts, feelings and emotions.” Khan’s primary medium is acrylic on canvas, often accompanied by mixed media elements. The Monterey-based artist admits that she makes a lot of mess throwing paint on canvas; when she is done, she is covered in paint, she says. “I seek to portray my internal visions and life experiences, allowing to stir their soul and evoke personal emotions and reflections.” See her work at instagram.com/abstractpaintersclub.
