In the late 1970s into the ’80s, Sage Sohier, with camera in hand, explored the neighborhoods of Boston and witnessed what she described as a “kind of theater of the streets.” She spent time with families, gaining their permission and trust to photograph them in their home environments on hot summer days. The project to “create a portrait of contemporary America,” she wrote in an artist statement, resulted in a series of monographs over the years. To celebrate her new book, Easy Days, set to be published in the fall, the Center for Photographic Art is hosting a solo exhibit of Sohier’s works from Oct. 18 to Nov. 30 at the Sunset Center’s Carpenter Hall (at 9th and San Carlos) in Carmel. Sohier will give a talk during an opening reception that runs from 4-6pm on Saturday, Oct. 18. [EC]
