First Look, Next Look is the title of a new exhibit at Gallery MAR Carmel (at Dolores Street and Ocean Avenue). The above untitled piece was painted by Ross Moore; other artists exhibited are Sarah Healey, Barbara Kreitman, John Maxon and Gustavo Torres. Moore is known for his urban landscapes, lost somewhere between realism and total abstraction. Initially a watercolorist, Moore eventually turned to oil painting. He creates images both recognizable and completely foreign, streets and vistas that show contemporary urban California, without revealing the location of the place. Billboards, traffic, games of shadows and sun are all there, even if you can’t read a single street sign. On display through March 15.
