LYNN BUTLER

Monterey County Historical Society presents Lynn Butler’s exhibition Flames Against the Dark: Saving America’s Sacred Sites. The exhibit can be seen in the historic Lagunita Schoolhouse at the Boronda Adobe History Center now through July 3. It records Butler’s decades-long passion in chronicling the tribal lifestyles, lands and rituals of America’s Indigenous peoples, including in Monterey County. Additionally, limited-edition prints as well as her book, with the same title as the exhibit, are for sale. “I try to capture the sense of time passing,” she wrote on her website. ”I hope that the photographs will be a reminder that we are on the edge of a century in which the fate of many life forms, including our own, will be determined, and the decision of whether to save or relinquish landscapes such as these will be of increasing urgency.”
