Monterey Peninsula College Art Gallery is still closed, but opening just for the 2025 PhotoCarmel festival. The above work by Jonathan Michael Castillo, titled “Julia #2,” consists of nine cyanotypes on handmade paper. The gallery presents an exhibition celebrating the work of photographers who all began their artistic journeys at community colleges. The exhibition, titled Community, features black-and-white photography and alternative photographic processes, and is a testament to the power of community college education. The gallery (located at 980 Fremont St., Monterey, on the MPC campus) is open by appointment only; the exhibit will be on display until May 26. Contact Becky Brister from the MPC Photography Department at photography@mpc.edu to schedule a time to see it.
