The Coast is a solo exhibit by Erin Lee Gafill, originally a Big Sur painter and the co-founder of Big Sur Artworks, who recently transplanted her home and studio to New England. That said, she remains a member of the Carmel Art Association, where the show – a series of oil paintings that document the meeting of the ocean and the land, featuring both the Pacific and the Atlantic – is displayed. “The dramatic seasons on the East Coast, forging a new community, and the bittersweet distance from my West Coast home and family have all shaped my new work in unexpected ways,” Gafill wrote in an artist statement. Above, the artist is shown posing with her work, “In the Woods ll.” Open through May 4; gallery hours are 10am-5pm daily, at Dolores Street between 5th and 6th, Carmel.
