Last year, the Arts Council for Monterey County announced recipients of the California Arts Council’s individual artist fellowships would be JC Gonzalez, Jerry Takigawa and Natalia Poehner Corazza. Now it’s time to celebrate the results with an exhibit at ArtWorks @Salinas (262 Main St.), showcasing their work. The exhibit opens with a reception at 5pm on Friday, Jan. 3 and runs through March 30. Gonzalez, whose work “Quetzal” is shown above, is also the founder of the Urban Arts Collaborative and a fine arts instructor at Hartnell College. “This recognition has increased my visibility and respect within the field and empowered me to invest in my professional development,” the artist shared. “I actively support youth in using art to amplify their voices for social justice.”
