• Painter David Ligare is the artist chosen to create a poster for this year’s Carmel International Film Festival (Oct. 21-25) based on his “thrown drapery” pieces. www.CarmelFilmFest.com for more.

• Last Saturday, the Carmel Bach Festival opened with fanfare, flourish and flavor. The fanfare and flourish came from the musical program, a power lineup of Handel’s Music for Royal Fireworks, Bach’s Cantata Wachet auf ruft uns die Stimme, and Haydn’s Harmoniemesse in B-flat Major (which one attendee conducted, at times, from his seat with one discreet and fluttering hand). The flavor came from a patio party after the concert with appetizers, desserts, champagne and home-brewed beer (which was a big hit) and likely inspired more merrymaking later. Keep an eye and ear open for more, like next Thursday’s (July 30) free concert 7pm at Seaside’s Oldemeyer Center. www.BachFest.org.

• Here is a cultural event of another stripe happening in Seaside: the Gold Coast Rods shows start 5pm on July 24 (that’s this Friday), Aug. 28 and Sept. 25 on Broadway, which gets lined with cherry rides, lo-los, rods, classics and custom cars. 758-6646.

• Carl Cherry Center puts on a group collage show of multimedia work from Tracey Adams, Michelle Avery, Will Marino, Grace Munakta, Robynn Smith and others. It’s called Collage: New Directions, and it opens 5-7pm Friday. 624-7491.

• Thomas Creed demonstrates his oil painting technique, which emulates the Barbizon School, 11am-5pm Saturday at Gallerie Amsterdam. 624-4355.

• Teresa Del Piero, president of the Monterey County Theater Alliance and longtime local stage actress, speaks 7pm on Tuesday ($10), as a guest of the Arts in Progressseries, to an audience at the Museum of Monterey about her life in theater and the state of the art. • Tickets go on sale Tuesday, July 28, for the Philip Glass Days & Nights Festival. Here is some of what you’ll see this Sept. 24-27: Sundance programmer Mike Plantescreens short films from the Park City film festival where he works; filmmaker, artist and sage Godfrey Reggio speaks at CSU Monterey Bay; Philip Glass and his musician friends perform a live score of the third film in the Qatsi triology, Naqoyqatsi; Mexico’s Ambulante Film Festival – started by Gael Garcia Bernhal, Diego Luna, Pablo Cruzand Elena Fortes – comes to little old Greenfield. www.PhilipGlassCenter.org/2015-festival for more.
