- Indie Author Days is a worldwide celebration of independent authorship, defined as “creative directors of a self-written book, from concept to completion.” Local commemorations are coming Saturday, Oct. 13, in Pacific Grove and Saturday, Oct. 20, at Monterey Public Library. The events in Pacific Grove include more than 30 such authors signing, selling and talking about their books at Pacific Grove Library 11am-5pm, and at the Pacific Grove Museum of Natural History 1-4:30pm. But the events fan out to Centrella Inn where editor Heather Lazare talks about the importance of place (1:30pm), Jewell Park where screenwriter Wolf Butowski and script reader and book tailor William Neish will talk about screenplays (3:30pm), and more. - There is another history-oriented event happening during Monterey History Fest (see story, left) that deserves a spotlight, but in a more sober way. Courage and Compassion: Our Shared Story of the Japanese American World War II Experience is an exhibition in text, photos and audio that’s put together by Go For Broke National Education Center. It covers World War II-era discrimination and internment of people of Japanese descent, Japanese Americans’ valor in the U.S. military, and their post war rebuilding and re-assimilation. During Monterey History Fest, it’s open 10am-4pm Saturday and Sunday, Oct. 13-14. Otherwise, Thursday-Sunday, 10am-4pm, till the end of the month, at Casa Gutierrez next to Monterey Museum of Art. - Shira Adler is the author of The ABCs of CBD: The Essential Guide for Parents (and Regular Folks Too), described as “infotainment” about cannabinoid, an ingredient in marijuana that doesn’t get you high but is purported to have positive health effects. She talks about it 1-3pm Saturday, Oct. 13, at Pilgrim’s Way Community Bookstore. Free. 624-4955.
- The Center for Photographic Art hosts Rebecca Senf in the latest CPA Lecture Series atCarpenter Hall in Sunset Center 4-5pm Saturday, Oct. 13. She is the chief curator at the Center for Creative Photography in Tucson, Arizona, and will talk about her projects and contemporary photography. Free/members, $10/guests. Photography.org.

A traveling exhibition about Japanese American internment and service during World War II, is at Casa Gutierrez during Monterey History Fest, 10am-4pm this Saturday and Sunday.
