- Chapman Gallery is putting on a retrospective art show, rounding up paintings of Christmases past by Gail Reeves. The occasion is bittersweet because after 28 years in Carmel, the gallery is closing. - Millennium Charter High School is known for its curriculum of video and TV media. But they have a holiday show that revolves around two plays, Gift of the Magi and Not Even a Mouse, directed by Britney Buffo, 7pm Friday, Dec. 15, and 2pm Saturday, Dec. 16, at MCAET in Salinas. - The Marina Library gets by with a little help from their Friends of the Marina Library, which just opened the Friends’ Community Bookstore (where I bought John Fordham’s excellent book,Jazz). - In an effort to attract the attention of more motorists on Carmel Valley Road, Jessica Kent of Jerome’s Carmel Valley Market commissioned an artist locally known for doing just that: John Cerney. He’s the man behind the giant cut-outs of farmers and farm workers among Salinas’ ag fields. He’s going to paint Kent’s youngest daughter, Anais, on the side of a building at the Center Street Marketplace. “Local art to help local business,” Kent calls it.
