  • No more speeding over to Safeway, searching like a maniac for a last-minute Mother’s Day gift. Just get over to the Monterey Peninsula College Mother’s Day Art Sale, 5-8pm Thursday, 10am-5pm Friday and Saturday, May 9-11. They have unique and lovely stuff made by the jewelry, ceramic and printmaking departments. 646-4215, mpc.edu.
  • The event is called “Great Books, Cultural Bias, Robinson Jeffers, and a Kid from Brooklyn.” For those who know, that adds up to Elliot Ruchowitz-Roberts. The poet/teacher is giving a Monterey Peninsula College Spring Great Books talk 7pm Thursday, May 9, at the MPC Library, with a Q&A and poetry books for sale. This man has much to impart. So says a former writing student of his. Which is me. I guess that’s a fragmentary sentence. Sorry, Elliot. 646-4062, ajohnson@mpc.edu.
  • The Salinas Valley Art Association is coming to Seaside’s Avery Gallery for a group exhibition of paintings in the months of May and June, with an opening reception 7-8:30pm Friday, May 10. What is this “lettuce curtain” you speak of? 899-6811, sgray@ci.seaside.ca.us.
