- Jerry Takigawa and the Center for Photographic Art have put together another PIE (Photography + Ideas + Experience) Lab creativity workshop this weekend at Sunset Center’sCarpenter Hall. This one, June 24-26, is branded as PIE Tech. www.photography.org.
- Youth Arts Collective’s 15th annual Artathon enlists its young artists to make photos, sculptures, paintings, whatever, in a 24-hour stretch of time at their rollicking and sprawling studio/gallery, spurred on by encouragement and donations from you. It’s their biggest fundraiser of the year, and also a crazy creative way to put on a group show, with all the works for sale. - FotoSaga is a Carmel-based group of women photographers, assembled from Paso Robles to Palo Alto by Carol Henry, who put on exhibitions at her Carmel Visual Arts gallery. They gather in 11 sessions over 5 months for lectures, outings and critiques. Their last outing covered San Francisco, wherein they sought to capture the essence of the city through its people, architecture and spirit. The exhibition of that work, City Centric, opens 4-6pm Saturday. 250-5732.
- USC Radio Group intends to bring radio station KDFC San Francisco Classical and its classical music format to two new stations here, serving Monterey and Carmel (at 103.9 FM) and Big Sur (95.9 FM), pending FCC approval of the license transfers. www.kdfc.com.
- HI-Monterey Hostel hosts regular free speaking programs that encourage more exploration of this planet we call Earth. The one lined up for Monday, June 27 (6pm potluck, 6:45pm talk) celebrates the 100th anniversary of the National Park Service by inviting folks to share stories and tips from their own forays into the country’s national parks. 869-0646.
- Paper Wing Theatre Company has put out a call for California playwrights to submit previously unproduced plays to their Third Annual Summer Play Reading Exhibition. Your work can be read aloud by actors in front of a live audience, who may then provide feedback, and the company will choose a play to produce. The deadline to email submissions, for free, is July 1. That’s not a lot of time, but it might be worth the grind.
