- The 80th Carmel Bach Festival’s finale concert last Saturday was a nice round-up of favorite musical pieces from the previous two weeks, a sold-out concert that yielded lots of applause for the orchestra, chorale, conductors and soloists. - The second of the summer’s PhotoWalk Carmel is 5-7pm this Saturday, Aug. 5. This moveable feast of photographic art develops all at once at nine neighboring galleries including Photography West, Robert Knight, Exposed and Oficino Uno. Gallery Sur is featuring Winston Swift Boyer’s stunning “Ocean 3.28.13 IX” of his Ocean series; Robin Winfield Gallery has a mixed media photo-painting demonstration by Robin. 626-2615.
- The Center for Spiritual Living occupies a special place in my heart because it is the beautiful venue my wife and I got married in. It occupies a special place in the heart of historic downtown Monterey this year for having resided in its spot on Franklin Street for a century. To celebrate, they’re throwing an open house featuring guest speaker Dr. Kenn Gordon, described as the spiritual leader of the Center for Spiritual Living Worldwide. - Marketing maven Wendy Brickman has a public access TV show on AMP Media called the Brickman Banter Show in which she speaks to various people in the community. At 5pm Tuesday, Aug. 8, her guest is Andrea Brown, president of Andrea Brown Literary Agency. Writers and illustrators of children’s books may want to tune in (Comcast channel 27 or streaming on ampmedia.org).
- Before Car Week revs into town, here’s a talk about a technology that may change our notion of driving. Dr. Allen Fuhs, who retired as chief scientist of the U.S. Air Force Aero-Propulsion Lab, speaks about driverless cars, addressing their benefits, costs, impacts and ETA. A car without a steering wheel? Driving enthusiasts will probably not be so enthused, but commuters may throw their hands in the air and cheer. It’s 2:30-4pm Wednesday, Aug. 9 at the Carmel Foundation. It’s free, limited to 100 futurists. 620-8705.
- Stuart Chase of Monterey Museum of Art says their idyllic La Mirada location has been in hibernation since June while they figure out what, ultimately, they want to do with the space. There’s been talk about the unwieldiness of juggling the two venues for years. Stay tuned. Montereyart.org.
Last weekend, the kids and teens of the Wharf Theatre Summer Camp did lights, sound, costumes, sets, writing, make-up and a tribute to Angelo in the theater’s first production, Alice in Wonderland, since his passing.
