Dr. Allen Radner

One of the main infectious disease experts who with other medical professionals helped Monterey County navigate the Covid-19 pandemic has been tapped to lead Salinas Valley Health through its transition period as CEO Pete Delgado steps aside after 10 years in charge.

That expert is Dr. Allen Radner, who's been serving as SVH's chief medical officer for the past decade. The announcement was made by the SVH Board of Directors during a meeting on Wednesday, Nov. 1. Radner will begin his term an interim CEO on Dec. 1.

Last month the board initiated a nationwide search for Delgado's permanent replacement, who announced his resignation last month. That search continues.

Radner joined the medical staff of SVH in 1994, serving on the executive team as the system's chief medical officer. In October 2019, he was named CEO of Salinas Valley Health Medical Clinic, a network of primary and specialty care clinics serving Monterey County with more than 300 physicians.

Radner has cared for patients at all three major hospitals in the county: SVH, Community Hospital of the Monterey Peninsula and Natividad, including seeing Covid patients during the most extreme periods of the pandemic.
