The high-end clothing maker Robert Talbott, which is headquartered in Monterey, has been shrinking its local manufacturing footprint for months.

In November, the company issued notices that 38 employees would be laid off effective Jan. 8

Now, nearly two months later, the company is set to auction off much of its "quality cut and sew manufacturing equipment." The auction, through Heritage Global Partners, is set for a 24-hour period starting at 8pm on Thursday, March 8.

The gear up for sale includes: dozens of sewing machines, 10 cutting tables, a tie seamer, forklifts, boilers, racks and carts, among other equipment.

As of 2014, 110 workers at the Monterey factory stitched shirts, neck ties and neck squares. That workforce shrunk by 50-percent over the next three years, leaving just 55 employees when the company issued layoff notices in November—leaving behind just 17 employees at that point.

Robb Talbott, who founded the namesake clothing company, is no longer involved in the business. He sold the company over a year ago to CEO Bob Corliss and Corliss' family.

Company officials did not respond to a request for comment on Friday.

They sucked the company dry, liquidated assets per bankruptcy, then a Corliss owned company got paid to auction off the bankrupt Corliss-owned brand right back to Corliss thru the Relevant Brands group, at pennies on the dollar. Now they are planning a comeback of sorts. Only in America.
