Multiple No Kings Day protests are planned for around the Monterey Bay region on Saturday, March 28, joining more than 3,000 protests planned around the country. National organizers claim it will be the largest number of protests taking place on one day since the resistance began after President Donald Trump took office.
The goal of the protests is to demonstrate support for democratic institutions, the rule of law and the principle that no individual stands above the Constitution, according to organizers.
Central Coast Indivisible and local 50501 chapters staggered times of events to ensure maximum participation, according to a press release. Each event will include speakers, signs and opportunities for residents to connect with local advocacy groups.
Last year's No Kings events in June and November attracted thousands of people locally, becoming some of the largest protests in recent memory. At least 5,000 people attended the June event in Monterey, with a slightly larger crowd in November. Nationally there were 2,000 events in June and 2,700 in November.
