Evacuation orders for two zones within Big Sur were issued just before 11pm Sunday, Aug. 9, with evacuation warnings added in three additional surrounding zones, as the Timber Fire continued to spread, doubling in size overnight to 800 acres.

The two zones that were ordered to evacuate, MRY-F026 and MRY-F027, include landmarks such as Nepenthe, Post Ranch Inn, Henry Miller Library and others.

Those under a warning include two zones to the north of that area, MRY-F024 and MRY-F025. The areas include a portion of Pfeiffer Big Sur State Park.

An evacuation warning means public safety officials advise people to be prepared with a go-bag and on alert for a potential evacuation order; if an order is issued, people in the affected area are advised to leave immediately.

To the south, Zone MRY-F028 is under an evacuation warning, as well. The zone includes Julia Pfeiffer Burns State Park.

The fire is estimated at 5-percent containment as of Monday morning, Aug. 10.
