KRML achieved iconic status as one of the country’s top jazz stations for several decades – and a non-credited star in Clint’s 1971 directorial debut Play Misty For Me. Under the new leadership of owner Scot McKay and program managers Mike Hale and Jeff White, the gears have shifted completely from jazz. These days, KRML – they call themselves “Adult Album Alternative” – is best described as Top-40-meets-college-radio-meets-classic-rock. You could hear Smashing Pumpkins’ rendition of Fleetwood Mac’s “Landslide,” Mumford & Sons’ “Lover of the Light” and Muddy Waters’ “Hoochie Coochie Man” all in the span of an hour. There’s also a hefty heaping of local flavor led by a crop of beloved hosts including the Herald’s Mac McDonald, Chef Todd Fisher and Moore Media’s Tanya Moore.
