Fort Ord National Monument

It’s been said the only constant is change. This sprawling playground of natural wildland has remained undeveloped through the centuries, but its branding has certainly gotten an upgrade. The 7,200-acre chunk of the former Army base was recently named Fort Ord National Monument – making the regular local bikers feel just that much more proud of the 86 trail miles they ride, through grasslands, oak woodlands and maritime chaparral. It’s hard to imagine another locale beating out this two-wheel wonderland, fancy name or no.
