With thousands of costumes, fabrics and scraps transformed into new outfits every year, traveling circuses need to find creative ways to recycle, upcycle and turn their old things into something new. It’s a skill performers become rather good at when they travel in compact caravans, with little space for anything beyond the necessary. What makes the world go ’round are the places that collect, store and display those once-used items, giving them a chance to become someone else’s costume, home item or treasure. That’s what Habitat for Humanity does at its two ReStore locations, in Seaside and Watsonville, where donated goods across Monterey County get a second act.
