There are lots of games played here – mahjong, poker, bridge, chess, cornhole, the list goes on – but this senior-serving nonprofit is very serious about fulfilling its mission. This is a lively and enriching gathering place for some 2,500 members ages 55 and up for fun and games, yes, but also classes, lectures, a lending library and caregiver support groups. There is also attention on helping meet essential needs – meal deliveries for homebound seniors, blood pressure checks, free medical equipment loans and 50 affordable apartments for low-income seniors. Affordable lunches four days a week draw a crowd, also meeting an essential need – being together is the best antidote to isolation and loneliness, and this hangout spot for seniors is a place to thrive.
