The only thing fishy in Monterey is the Municipal Wharf, NOT the fact that the Monterey County Weekly website won its own poll. It’s a corner of the internet tourists visit before they visit the county; they peruse the Hot Picks section and spy on local drama uncovered by Squid. The Weekly’s website is also a calm oasis in a news landscape of homogenized clickbait, with stories assigned by real, living editors and not an algorithm designed to help topple Western civilization. As for us winning Best Blog, again there was no gerrymandering here. Can the Weekly be called a “weekly” if it publishes stories daily? Yes, emphatically yes. The Monterey County Weekly blogs cover food stories, news, opinion and, since March of 2020, includes the daily Monterey County NOW newsletter. They are the best and for good reason: you, the reader.
