Monterey County Fair
Annually on Labor Day weekend 2004 Fairground Road, Monterey 372-5863, montereycountyfair.com
From a monkey tail on a stick (various things being done to a banana) to pizza on a stick to chocolate-covered bacon on a stick, the list of food items that can be eaten from a stick while walking and looking around has no end. But novelties last while they last, and certain classics never get old. Good old fair options – cotton candy on the stick and a nicely breaded corn dog with some ketchup or mustard (both?) – are still the winners. A nice long stick will assure the relative cleanliness of your face while you are too busy to sit down and eat properly. Hands down. Tongues and teeth out!
