Decades of local musicians have cycled through The Monterey Music store during one iteration or another looking for everything from strings to high-end, triangle-shaped speaker cabinets. As of 2020 they’ve moved next to the Golden State Theatre. The shop’s taken a new direction since Jon Prock and family took over in 2016. Within the smaller space, the collection of high-end instruments looks focused yet still offers a variety. What could have easily become a down-town eyesore has transformed into an asset that adds variety and value to Monterey’s downtown resurgence.
