Big Sur Taco

Saul Reos and his partner Heidi Bates aren’t politicians, but they did see a problem in their community and decided to fix it. When part of Big Sur became an “island,” in a lot of ways the area became cut off from the rest of the resources of Monterey County including tacos. So Reos and Bates filled the taco-shaped power vacuum with street tacos of carne asada, shrimp and other delicious fillings. Like any good power couple in politics, they mobilized and spread their delicious pragmatism elsewhere in the county, including Monterey and Seaside, which is the kind of grassroots organization both sides and the middle of the aisle can get behind.
